Dr Amera Halabi

BMBS, FRACP, PhD, BMedSci (Hons)
Consultant Cardiologist

Amera completed a Bachelor of Medical Science degree at La Trobe University in 2007 and her medical degree at Flinders University in 2011. She pursued cardiology training at Flinders Medical Centre which included rotations at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the Royal Darwin Hospital. She moved back to Melbourne in 2019 to undertake a PhD at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute in early heart failure in type 2 diabetes which she completed in 2023. She underwent a cardiac imaging fellowship at Western Health and completed this in 2024.

Amera has experience in diagnosing and managing diseases in general cardiology and has a special interest in heart failure. Through her fellowship at Western Health she has expertise in performing and reporting transthoracic echocardiography, stress echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography, and cardiac CT.

Amera is a consultant cardiologist at Western Health (Footscray and Sunshine Hospital) and at Sunshine Private Hospital. She consults in general cardiology (such as chest pain, palpitations, shortness of breath and syncope), heart failure (reduced and preserved ejection fraction), ischaemic heart disease, hypertension, valve problems and other specific cardiac disorders.

She continues to do research with the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute and through Western Health, primarily in heart failure. She teaches junior medical doctors and students through her appointment at Western Health.
