Dr Rashid Bashir is a Consultant Cardiologist at Heart West with sub speciality interest in Echocardiography, Stress Echocardiography, Coronary Angiography and Heart Failure.

Attaining MBBS from University of Punjab, Pakistan in 1987, he had initial general medicine (POFs Hospital, Wah Cantt) and cardiology (Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology, Rawalpindi) training in Pakistan, followed by FCPS in Medicine and then MRCP (UK). His special interest at that time was silent ischemia having done research in that field.

After coming to Australia in 1999, he worked in Shellharbour, Sydney, Ararat and finally in Western Health in Melbourne where he still works after completing Australian qualifications of FRACP (Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians) and DDU (Diploma in Diagnostic Ultrasound) – both in cardiology.

His experience spans diagnosing and treating wide range of diseases both in general medicine and cardiology. He maintains interest in general medicine mainly through working in Sunshine Hospital, while most of the private work is in cardiology.

He is affiliated and accredited with Western Health (Footscray and Sunshine Hospitals), Western Private Hospital, Epworth Hospital Richmond and The Valley Private Hospital. Dr. Bashir’s work includes consultations for general cardiology (Chest pain, Palpitations, shortness of breath, syncope and related symptoms), as well as for hypertension, ischemic heart disease, valve problems, heart failure and other specific cardiac problems. He is actively involved in reporting trans thoracic echocardiograms, performing and reporting stress echocardiograms, transoesophageal echocardiograms, coronary angiograms, and related investigations.

Dr. Bashir is also involved in teaching medical students (both in public hospital and at HeartWest rooms) and residents / registrars as well as occasionally taking international medical graduates for observership.
